All Glory to God!
It was getting late on September 29, 2009. I think the workers thought we weren't coming. Lera was in bed and they had to go wake her for us. We didn't have time to stop to get her clothes before we got there because there wasn't any time. Even though we got up before sunrise, it was dark before we got to Lera's orphanage. We had just spent the entire day in Donetsk gathering Lera's birth certificate and official papers in order to prove she was our daughter before we could take her home. We went from Kramatorsk by bus early that morning to Donetsk, then all the way back to Lera's orphanage in Druzhkovka. Everyone was tired, but there was no time to waste. After things were set, we said our goodbyes, leaving with Lera for the first time, ever! Our cab was waiting for us outside to take us to our apartment. Lera started screaming to get inside, partly for fear and partly for joy. She was so excited she could hardly sit in her seat! This went on all the way from Druzhkovka to our Kramatorsk apartment. She was happy to be in our apartment once we got there, but we couldn't stay for long because we had a night train to catch! We quickly got our bags together and took our second cab ride with our daughter to our train. With no time to waste, we barely made it! No kidding, we had to run along the outside of the train to catch it, because it was already leaving when we got there! Running and reaching, we grabbed to pull ourselves up and climbed inside while it was in motion. What crazy, scary, FUN! I couldn't believe we made it, BUT WE DID! We were finally headed HOME! (or so we thought!).....(please read my book - Chasing A Dream Where The Sunflowers Grow - for what happens next!)
